Why This Checklist Matters
AI search systems use a different set of signals than traditional search engines. This checklist covers the files, metadata, and accessibility factors that affect how well AI systems can discover, understand, and reference your content.
- Core files — llms.txt, robots.txt, and sitemap.xml are the three files that control AI crawler access and comprehension.
- Structured data — JSON-LD helps AI systems parse content context without having to infer meaning from raw HTML.
- Crawler policies — Making sure AI search crawlers can access your content is a prerequisite for appearing in AI-generated responses.
- Content accessibility — AI systems can only reference content they can access. Paywalled or JavaScript-heavy content is harder for AI systems to use.
⚠️ No guarantees. Completing all items on this checklist does not guarantee AI search visibility, citations, or ranking improvements. It covers best practices for foundational AI search readiness.
